Second Grade STEM
Life Cycle STEM Project
Second Grade students are learning about the life cycle of a plant and how it goes from being a seed to a mature plant. Students are watching lime lapse videos of plants growing as well as starting their own lima beans seeds in the window of the STEM classroom. Students will watch their seed and track the changes that are made over the week.
Students put lima beans in a Ziploc bag with some cotton balls and gave the beans a spritz of water. The cotton balls will act as soil and the clear plastic bag will allow the students to see the roots sprouting from the beans. Look closely and you can see a root coming from one of the beans!
Plant Shade STEM Project
Students are working on identifying and solving problems that involve the Sun's effect on Earth by creating a movable plant shade to protect a plant from getting a sunburn. The plant shade needs to provide shade to the plant during the hottest part of the day, but be able to move so the plant will get sunlight during the cooler parts of the day.
